Why take a moment to listen?

The CLASSIE Mission

Awareness and empathy in academic environments can be hard, but listening is a good start.

Have you ever felt that you were treated differently based on a societal bias? If so, we invite you to tell your story. We will read it.

Who can contribute their story?

Anyone. We are currently accepting contributions to our first collection. These accounts can be anonymous, with the goal of informing readers of the various situations in which people are affected by bias during their academic or post-academic careers.

What should I include in my story?

There is no required format or length. We suggest that your story contains enough detail to help readers identify similar situations and learn from your experience. What was your position and background at the time? In what ways were you affected by bias? What did you do to address the situation, and did anyone listen to you? What do you believe should have been done by those involved to address your concerns? How did the situation affect your outlook or career? In retrospect, do you have advice or know of resources for people in this type of situation? What can be done to prevent similar incidences in the future, or to generally improve the academic atmosphere?

How can I submit my story?

Currently, contributors to a blog entry are invited by the author. If you have an idea for a CLASSIE blog entry and would like to be its primary author, please reach out to us at connect@classieblog.org.
